Not long ago, I received an email claiming to be from “iCloud” asking me to update my credit card details or I might lose all my photos. At first glance, it looked convincing. But as I read further, something felt off.
The email wasn’t just asking for payment information, it was also requesting my SIN number. That was my red flag.
I decided to double-check. Sure enough, when I looked closely at the sender’s email address, I noticed subtle misspellings, the kind attackers often use to trick people into thinking a message is legitimate.
This experience reminded me how convincing phishing emails can be. They play on urgency, fear, or curiosity to trick you into giving away sensitive information.
Here are 3 quick tips to stay safe:
✅ Always double-check the sender’s email address.
✅ Be suspicious of requests for personal/financial info.
✅ When in doubt, go directly to the official website, don’t click links in the email.
Cybersecurity isn’t only about tools and firewalls, it’s about awareness. If something feels off, it probably is..
Stay alert. Stay safe.
